Superfine Super 100’s wool

This wool comes from the first shearing of Australian lambs from selected Mulesing Free farms. Super 100’s refers to the fineness of the fibers used to create the fabric. With a range from 100’s to 160’s, the smaller the number, the more resistant and durable the fabric will be.

Ours is combed, dyed and spun in Italy by Lanecardate, who have been making top quality yarns since 1966: an example of true Made in Italy excellence. They care about people and the environment, employing carefully selected natural fibers and overseeing their entire production chain in order to guarantee the origins, traceability and compliance of the raw materials used.

Care

We recommend washing this garment by hand: fill up a basin with lukewarm water and a few drops of mild or delicate laundry detergent. Turn the garment inside out before immersing it in the water and leaving it to soak for 5 minutes - no longer or the detergent could cause damage. Then rinse delicately, without wringing it out. To get rid of any excess water, lay the garment out on a towel and roll it up on itself.

If you want to wash it in the washing machine, always turn it inside out or put it inside a delicates bag and choose a short gentle cycle that doesn’t exceed 30°C. If possible, turn off the spin cycle entirely (or set it to maximum 400 RPM).

Once the wash is finished, lay it out flat and in the shade to dry. Store in a cool dry place. Don’t wash it after every wear, instead let it air out a little. Wool has natural antibacterial properties.

As for pilling? The dreaded pills that form on the surface of a garment are actually the material's ordinary reaction to friction against itself or other surfaces. It's naturally expressed by cashmere and high quality wool, so when you wear it, make sure to use an anti-pilling comb and always take care of the fibers when washing. That way they'll last you longer.

Design

Great craftsmanship begins with premium quality ethically-sourced materials, giving you a garment that will last a lifetime. That’s why our artisans must carry out various anti-pilling tests once a garment is pieced together. Pilling occurs naturally with most knitwear, but less so when the clothing is good quality. We take care to minimize it as much as possible, so we subject each sample to friction tests and assess the outcome. It’s a time-consuming process that requires a lot of trial and error, but that in the end gives us a longer lasting sweater.

It is made using 4-ply yarn and knitted at 5 gauge thickness. The gauge refers to the number of needles per inch on the needle bed. The higher the number of needles, the finer the yarn needs to be.

Drop stitching the yarn makes the garment more refined and well-balanced. Drop stitching means lowering the needles in the machine to create curves in the knit without using scissors: a premium technique that guarantees less waste.

Knitwear gets washed after being made so it will stay just as beautiful as you see it. Our artisans line up and full the fabric during the production phase - this process brings out the softness in the wool.
