Alberto Candiani x Velasca

A DENIM CAPSULE WARDROBE

Our designs, Candiani blue

Among pages of notes we rediscovered some of our most popular designs and gave them a new life, to bring you a denim capsule wardrobe, signed by Alberto Candiani. Born and raised within his family’s company, Alberto was our guide to discovering denim: it’s naturally hard-wearing and ages beautifully. Made in Italy quality, as always.

Alberto chose three washes for us. The first and purest is indigo: raw, blue-black. The second is a medium wash, bright blue. The third is an intense light blue wash. Three shades with a thousand more beneath, and denim that has been crafted to perfection by the artisan’s touch.

It looks like a shirt but feels like a jacket: you can tell by its wider fit and study fabric. Inspired by worker uniforms from the early 1900s: made from denim for its durability, of course.

Classic chinos

Not your usual jeans: they take on the classic lines of a tailored pant. Along with a watch pocket and button supported with an extended placket, the aged denim expresses notes of elegance.

An Italian history

The year is 1400, and we’re in Chieri, between Piedmont and Liguria. This is where the history of denim begins: a story linked to the workers at the port of Genoa. Denim was initially worn by the camalli there, dock hands that loaded ships, but came to be recognized worldwide.

Candiani is a company preserving this Italian tradition, founded in 1938 Robecchetto, inside the Ticino natural park.

A CHAT WITH

Alberto Candiani

Since he was a child, his life has been blue, and Alberto quickly came to love everything denim. “For me the factory was like a playground. I quite literally grew up here; our family homes are inside the same courtyard as the factory.”
